Introduction
Art education is an essential aspect of making ideas more realistic in the practical world.
Art education has many elements that contribute to actualization of the ideas that are to be
expressed to the viewers. The different elements include line, shape, value, space, color, and
textures, which can be combined to make ideas more realistic to the viewers for easy translation.
The line is the most fundamental of all the other elements of design. Every artist will use the line
as the starting place for most artistic creation for expressing ideas on a sculpture. Different
dimensions of a line tend to express other ideas depending on the width, direction, and length.
Artists use the various aspects of a line to express ideas to the viewers and communicate
important information for the clients. The application of line in arts can be evident in different
applications in the world of application, beginning with the writing world where alphabets and
numbers are products of lines. The visual element of line is a foundation of all paints and
drawings and act as the significant descriptors of thoughts and expressions of the artistic works
(Cetinkaya, 2007). Lines as essential elements have been used by different renowned artists in
the world to express their ideas making their work very attractive to the viewers. Artists such as
Henri Matisse and Henry Moore are among the renowned artists who have used lines in their
work to provide striking pieces of art. The line is an important element that can act as a

directions to different locations and in separating lanes on the roads in different directions. The
line is not only crucial to the artists in delivering their artistic works to the viewers but also to the
viewers to understand the implications of the lines to provide information that is useful in the
environment. Adam (2018) illustrates that lines are an essential tool for artists. Most of the artists
recognize the importance of the lines in making the works more realistic. One of the most
recognized artists for the use of lines in the artistic work is Henry Spencer, who was an English
artist and sculptor known for marble sculptures spread across the world as public works of arts.
He produced many drawings during World War II and was one of the most influential of the
time. Moore is known for introducing modernism in the artistic world.
Lines are used in communicating different information such as tone and the mood of the
sculptures that are drawn. In the absence of the line as an element design, images cannot make
sense to the viewers. It is paramount to understand the information that is presented by different
models of lines. The density of the lines in the art can be used to communicate the intensity of an
aspect being communicated while the light lines indicate a lack of seriousness in an aspect.
Broken lines can be used to illustrate a boundary that is not permanent, while the continuous
lines illustrate a permanent boundary. The world in the 21st century is becoming complicated,
and everything is dependent on design to become meaningful. Space compression in society
requires the application of lines in the planning process. Currently, the planning of the cities is
highly dependent on the lines as the descriptors to ensure there is efficiency in the utilization of

be addressed:

Significance and the impact of the research
The primary goal of the research is to understand the use of lines as an element of art in art
education. The research will explore how different artists utilize lines as the most important
aspect of their design to communicate different messages. The objective of the current study is to
provide the artists and viewers with an understanding of the significance of using lines in making
art and design more effective and efficient. The research will also provide a comprehensive
